Centrica

Business

Centrica services the needs of tens of millions of customers through a range of brands. Since its formation in 1997, Centrica has grown rapidly in terms of size and service lines. This success continues to require periods of change in terms of business realignments, acquisitions and disposals.

Transformation

Each time Centrica changes structure, timely management of Human Resources is critical to success. To support this, a foundation business system and a toolkit for integrating new acquisitions into Centrica were required. HCL AXON has supported Centrica since 1997 managing their SAP applications on a day to day basis. An SAP competency centre forms the backbone of Centrica's back office systems. Centrica is now able to rapidly integrate and manage the human resources it acquires at whatever pace they come on board. HCL AXON continues to support this process and over 30,000 employees are represented on the system.

GPU / FirstEnergy

Pennsylvania, USA

GPU / FirstEnergy Pennsylvania, USAWith 2.5 million electricity customers in three states and 4,500 employees, GPU Energy (now merged with FirstEnergy) is the largest SAP IS-U/CCS implementation in the USA. Its implementation project involved the total replacement of three separate customer information systems dating as far back as the 1960s, with the addition of extensive functionality to support deregulation.

Deregulation rules in Pennsylvania required GPU to "unbundle" its rates, showing all bill components on the customer statement. In addition, the company was required to calculate bills on behalf of third party service providers in a "Rate Ready Environment" and later to receive calculations from the service provider and perform billing on their behalf in a "Bill Ready Environment". Moreover, GPU had to meet the varying needs of operating in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

TUI's team of consultants worked with GPU Energy to implement the SAP IS-U/CCS solution, including the development of major components and enhancements, sub-system integration and data migration. The project also included specification of the interfaces between IS-U/CCS and GPU's automated field service order system, meter reading management system, GIS system, and overflow call center.

The solution implemented in 1999 has enabled GPU Energy to operate three separate companies (Metropolitan Edison, Pennsylvania Electric and JCP&L) on one system, and has provided the company with the capability to provide billing services on behalf of more than 30 other companies in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

After a successful go-live, GPU engaged TUI Consulting to provide on-going support and assistance with further developments and enhancements including investigating new solutions for fieldwork management, archiving and Internet developments. GPU Energy installed TUI Consulting's complementary solution for Interval Data Management (CMM-IDM) in 2001, upgraded to the more powerful SAP version 4.6 in 2002. TUI consultants have also been engaged to advice of the expansion of SAP into FirstEnergy.

TUI Consulting was engaged as sub-contractor by another consulting firm as experts in SAP's IS-U/CCS Customer Service system. Specifically, TUI was tasked with developing the Customer Interaction Center (CIC) and related processes as well as designing technical enhancements to optimize a number of high volume business processes. The engagement also included the configuration of the SAP R/3 Service Management/Customer Service (SM/CS) module to support customer service and field service processes.

The MMWD system went live successfully in 2001. TUI Consulting has subsequently been selected to provide Post Implementation Support. This support provides MMWD with expert on site and remote consulting resources for SAP R/3 Core Modules and IS-U/CCS.

Mercury Energy

(Electricity retailing trading name of Mighty River Power) Auckland, New Zealand

Mercury EnergyMercury Energy supports electricity 300,000 customers, and 250 employees. It was initially a traditional electricity utility, which separated into Energy Auckland (as the retail provider) and Vector (as the distributor) as required by New Zealand's energy deregulation. Mercury is still the brand name for Mighty River Power, which was formed by the re-aggregation of Waikato Generation and Energy Auckland.

When Mercury Energy undertook its ERP/CIS project, SAP's Core Modules were chosen as the foundation solution and IS-U/CCS was chosen as the hub of the retail solution, with TUI Consulting as the prime integrator. TUI undertook a complete review of electricity retailing operational processes and IT systems ensure the capabilities were available for success in the fully deregulated electricity industry. All major processes were redesigned in conjunction with the development of an IT strategy that could deliver a fully integrated suite of systems for both the network and retail businesses.

TUI Consulting was also engaged to custom-build applications to manage interval data and facilitate energy product costing, load profiling and billing of contestable customers. These custom developed systems have subsequently become the Beta site for new releases of TUI Consulting's Competitive Market Modules (CMM). Also as part of the project, TUI integrated the solution with Mercury's Siebel Sales Enterprise CRM system, its Integra T wholesale trading and settlement system, and its KW2000 risk analysis and reporting system.

Mighty River Power (MRP) has continued to engage TUI Consulting to provide ongoing support and assistance with further developments and enhancements for RTP and IS-U/CCS through today.
