Africa Rail 2009

Location: Sandton International Convention Centre, Maude Street, Sandton South Africa
An industry destined for great things
Africa as a continent has realised the potential of its rail networks and is now amplifying the much needed investment into this sector. The figures speak for themselves.
As Malawi nurses plans to interconnect her railway network to Johannesburg, African Minerals Ltd will invest more than $300 million to reinvigorate Sierra Leone's railway. China has also seen the potential and is ramping up financing for transport projects in Africa. Reports estimate this investment will likely peak at $1 billion by 2010. In Kenya, the new Rift Valley Railways has announced its $206 Million 3-Phase Investment Plan.
Angola has plans to link its three railways with its neighbouring countries and Tanzania has welcomed $946 Million to improve its regional rail links. Meanwhile south of the equator, South African iron-ore producer Kumba Iron Ore and Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) have announced an increase in the Sishen-Saldanha iron-ore export at a capital investment of R4-billion.
This investment, merely the tip of the iceberg, adds up to more than $6, 5 billion worth of investment into Africa’s railway sector. That said, investment needs action and this is why Africa needs your products and services to facilitate the development. Why not capitalise on this spending boom?
12th Annual conference
This is what Africa Rail has been doing for the past 12 years.
Africa Rail offers "Investment and development opportunities for operators, developers, government and investors." This is your chance to meet and network with the key players in the industry and those involved in these momentous deals.
Launched in 1997 no other event in Africa has dedicated the past 12 years to hosting the most comprehensive, informative and innovative trade event with a single-minded goal: to empower and develop Africa’s rail transport industry.
Africa Rail has undoubtedly become the true voice and premier representation of Africa’s developing rail industry. The time has never been better for the world’s leading railway suppliers and solution providers to tap into this unsaturated rail market.
