What is UpgradeSmart?

UpgradeSmart is an end-to-end solution for planning and implementation of SAP ERP, CRM, SCM, BI and GTS upgrade projects.

The biggest challenges in a technical upgrade are reduction of risks and achieving project completion with reduced time, efforts and costs. HCL Axon UpgradeSmart helps achieve these objectives and delivers SAP ERP 6.0 Upgrades with reduced risk and 20 % reduction in overall efforts and 40 % reduction in costs from a combination of global delivery model. UpgradeSmart tool achieves these objectives with the following features:

• System assessment to determine the current inventory of various system components
• Upgrade simulation to determine the impact of upgrade on various system components with up to 90% accuracy. These results are then used to perform right upgrade strategy preparation, effort estimation and planning
• Upgrade execution with automated tools to accelerate various functions during upgrade
• Upgrade value added tools for performance optimisation

HCL AXON’s UpgradeSmart tool is central to planning the SAP upgrade projects. This tool simulates the actual technical upgrade process with a 90% accuracy determining code remediation effort including enhancements, repairs, data dictionary objects, patches, notes applied, and customization settings. The UpgradeSmart tool not only provides details of all identified impacts and associated technical upgrade planning parameters. It also enables drill down to all identified objects for further investigation effectively allowing the management of all upgrade related defects from a single tool. It allows customers to assess the level of effort for their Upgrade based on actual information as to how many objects need to be reviewed, repaired, etc., extracted from the impacted SAP instance prior to commencing the project (in the project evaluation phase). This information allows customers to develop a detailed & accurate plan for their Upgrade and precisely map out the resources required to upgrade their SAP System.

During this upgrade evaluation phase, HCL AXON’s SAP Optimization Workbench is also used to identify general system performance issues which could be improved through code remediation, these include object usage, program and SQL optimization, database table and index optimization, system dumps, time-outs, memory usage, etc

Once the upgrade plan has been assessed and confirmed, the UpgradeSmart executes two unique tasks that directly deliver significant reductions in the overall effort of the technical upgrade:

• Automatic correction of identified upgrade errors
• Automatic creation of Project and Blueprint in Solution Manager

As a result of these automated tasks, HCL AXON is able to fast-forward code remediation as well as rapidly enabling the testing and technical change management components of Solution Manager which is then used to manage the remainder of the technical upgrade project.
